Randy Cowley

Roche Harbor, WA, US

Randy Cowley is an accomplished yachtsman with over 350,000 miles at sea. His love for the sea is intrinsic and was inspired by a rich maritime heritage of steamship captains from the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. Randy’s passion for sailing developed at a young age.  He purchased his first sailboat at the age of 10 and began sailing competitively, winning local regattas.

Throughout his youth, Randy lived his passion as a world-class, competitive sailboat racer and later combined it with his love for design and studied engineering at the New York Institute of Technology. His credentials earned him a partnership at the Peter A Schmitt Naval Architect Firm in Port Washington, New York, which specialized in leading edge, highly technical custom construction in making boats lighter and faster.  He designed spars and hydraulic systems for ocean racing sailboats, and campaigned them in regattas worldwide.

Randy competed and won major ocean racing championships: Admiral’s Cup U.S. TEAM, Fastnet, America’s Cup Trials, ROLEX BIG BOAT SERIES, SAN FRANCISCO, IOR 50 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, ANTIGUA RACE WEEK, SORC, MEXORC, Trans Pac, Buenos Aires to Rio, PAN AM Clipper Cup, Kenwood Cup, NEWPORT RHODE ISLAND to Bermuda, Swiftsure ROCK.

I believe it was five years ago,  I approached a good friend asking for the name of a reputable yacht broker.  I had owned a few small boats but wanted to step up to a larger boat to explore the waters of the Pacific Northwest and Canada.   My friend who had owned and operated boats for years didn’t hesitate for a minute when he said call, Randy Cowley. After visiting with Randy for a few minutes, it was obvious he was extremely knowledgeable about the yacht business.  He did not try to push us to consider only his listings but was determined to find a boat to  fit our desires. After  we acquired our boat, he was always available to help with all sorts of issues from marine suppliers, to places to anchor and everything in between.  Randy is a true professional.   He is an excellent communicator,  well respected by industry peers, honest and knows the boating market.  I highly recommend anyone who is interested in either selling, moving up or acquiring a  boat to contact Randy Cowley.

We have been buying and selling yachts with Randy since 1998.  We find him to be a most knowledgeable, honest and trustworthy agent.  Randy is both expedient and thorough when it comes to his customers’ needs.

Having known Randy Cowley for over 20 years I have the utmost respect for his vast boating experience, extensive knowledge about almost every aspect of yachting and his ability to well represent both buyers and sellers in a professional manner. When I decided to sell my Ocean Alexander 61 I asked Randy if he would represent me. He arrived within 24 hours and spent several hours going through the entire boat with a fine-toothed comb. He then gave me his opinion regarding the boat’s attributes, its shortcomings, its general condition and what things he thought I should consider doing to the boat before listing it. From Randy’s inspection and his knowledge of the market and recent sales he suggested a price range that he thought was fair and would get the boat sold sooner than later, which was my goal. He arranged for and oversaw the detailing of the boat, advertised and made calls. He kept me informed of everything including when appointments were made to see the boat and people’s responses. Throughout this process I continued to be impressed byRandy’s vast knowledge of my boat, of every aspect of the mechanics of the boat and his professionalism. Always quick to respond to my calls and questions, Randy continuously went the extra mile to make sure everything went smoothly and that I was well represented. Randy has been involved in boating for many years, traveled and skippered around the world and designed, bought and sold yachts far larger than mine. And yet as he worked his way through the negotiating and selling process you would have thought I was his only client and that my boat was the Queen Mary. I cannot speak highly enough of Randy’s thoughtfulness and caring attitude from his first inspection until he picked the boat up to deliver it to the seller. The boat was sold within 6 weeks at a fair price. What more could you ask?

The process of sellingour yacht could not have been more seamless and professional.  Randy is well connected in the yacht industry.  He has a large base of buyers to draw from and only brings qualified buyers to the table.  We have dealt with Randy on both the buy side and sell side of a transaction with nothing but positive outcomes.
